The Crooked RoadVirginia Heritage Music Trail
Virginia's musical heritage runs deep and the Crooked Road is just the place to begin exploring its melodic roots. Come along for the adventure of a lifetime.
The Crooked Road – Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail pays homage to musicians from long ago to present day players and singers who are still carrying on the tradition. A drive down the part of the Crooked Road that leads to the Carter Family Fold is quite a journey. The mountains rise up around on all sides as if enveloping the traveler – music from those same mountains leads to the front doorstep of the Fold. Tunes flow out from fiddles, guitars and a Doghouse bass as dancers bob around the concrete floor. Traditional Music Honored on The Crooked RoadMusic honored along The Crooked Road is the music of the Appalachia. It is the old time music that has been passed down through generations of people who love to pass the time strumming and fiddling. Impromptu concerts can strike up at a moments notice when musicians find themselves together at local stores or on front porches across Southwest Virginia. The Blue Ridge Music Center “was established by the U.S. Congress to honor and commemorate an important strand of the cultural history of the United States,” according to The Crooked Road website.
